I've wanted some FOREVER! But I was hesitant to add any because the one's I would see were much too large to go with my baby frontosas. My lfs had a batch of fry born a few months ago and I've been harassing the store manager for them forever, but he kept telling me that the owner wanted to keep them etc...etc

So today when I went in there I asked again (as usual) if he would let a few go and...AND, He DID! I got 4 of them, I beieve two males and two females. They're so cute and the exact same size as my fronts  and it gets better! He sold them to me for 10.00 a piece! I was prepared to pay well over 25.00 for each.

I just finished rearranging and adding some rocks/plants to throw the fronts off and everybody seems to be doing well  ,so far so good ;)

The blues came out and began exploring right away and my largest front is minding his manners and following them around

I'm so excited! Wish us well :kana: :kana: :kana:

Congrats Kelly!

What are electric blues? Are they Melanochromis johanni's? If so, they might be a bit much for your fronts. I hope he doesn't hurt your fronts tho. I've seen a bigger difference in aggroness work tho. Just watch your fronts so they don't get hurt. I'm happy for you tho. :)

Are you going to post pics for us?

Thanks you guys

Not sure of their scientific name Jeff...they're just like the kind FreshMike keeps with his fronts though ( )....now you made me worry!

Do I sense ANOTHER tank coming on?

Why oh why can't I fall in love with fish who can get along with eachother :X ,it's bad enough that I have to keep all of the bettas seperate AND the midas, now these toooooo! :X :X :X

Thankfully it will be a long time before they're grown, right now everybody is very, very young.

Awww sorry. I didn't mean to make you scared. When the fronts are bigger it will be ok because they'll be big enough that if it is a johanni, he won't mess with him. I only meant in the beginning to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't hurt the front. It should be ok tho.

Heck, look what I keep with my piranhas...A Melanochromis chipokae. That's a LOT worse than what you're doing and it's working out fine and has in the past for the most part. :)

Don't worry at all Kelly. You'll be fine. :)

You would love a 55g with Mbuna though. Kirsten and I are going to get a tank of them as I think she'll love them. Kind of another step of me getting her into cichlids and piranhas. ;) shhhhh tho :kira: You could even get some into a 29g and be fine if you wanted. I really like Mbuna.

No worries, these are fine for front tankmates (from what I've read) and should do great

Right now they're much smaller than my largest front but they should catch up rather quickly. They're bigger than my smaller fronts though -_- , but I'm not worried about them ,they're tough little boogers and can defend themselves easily...they've had plenty of practice after dealing with the big front

whew, that's not them

These are sciaenochromis fryeri
Ohhh ok. I just saw this post. Yea, fryeri are fine. Like you knew all along until I butted in.

Hey no problem, you were just looking out for the welfare of my fish

Thankfully all is well and tonight I can tear down the Christmas tree and move the recliner back to it's original spot...where I can sit and watch my tank :kana: . Right now there's no good place to sit & stare, you just have to stand in front of it to look and the fish just wonder what you're looking at so they don't behave the way they do when they think no one's watchin' :hey: :fun:

Ah yes, once again the importance of proper names rears its ugly head lol.

Congrats on the Fryeri, they're nice fish and get along well with company.

Thanks!

I think I want to go and get a couple more females

So far everythings great, not a bit of arguing which is surprising, my larger front was extremely abusive to the smaller fronts when I brought them home, attacking the bag while they floated and such and I kinda expected him to behave the same way with the blues, but he didn't :dunno:
Could be because everybody is young,he's the oldest but not much older...I'm going to guess and say he's maaaybe a year old,my smaller fronts are probably 7 or 8 months and the blues are only 4 months old B)

Wuv I am not a big fan of "This fish has to be kept in this size of tank" ideas but when I did a search on your scientific name here is what I got.
Aquarium
At least 400 litres (88 gal.).
Cichlids
Can someone shed some light on this??
Signed,
Sondan

I am very big on "this fish needs to be kept in this size tank" ideas  , I don't want any of my babes to be unhappy , they're in a 120 gallon so they'll certainly be happy

Future plans are at least a 180 or a 200 for them and the fronts to move to, then my midas can have the 120 for himself

Your fronts were aggressive to the other fronts because they are fronts. Never said front so many times in a sentance.

Anyway, your Front will not have a problem with the Fryeri because they are niether threat, nor food. To a fish the same species is a bigger threat then other species.

Stop saying fronts up there! :kira: :kira:

That makes sense though, thanks, you learnt me somethin' :fun:
