Ehiem Filter Choice

I am trying to decide which of these filters to get. I have a 20g tank, and a 45g tank. I also have another 20g tank that is just sitting around for now. Looking to get an external because my HOB has broken and running on a backup filter now. Basicly these are about the same price but one is rated for higher than another. Just looking for something that would be best for my 20g and another for a 45g.

Eheim Filter 2213 is gd for ur 20 gallon , I have 1 for my 30 gallon and im pleased with it...gd waterflow , priming is easy(if u read the instructions) its very quiet , the body is well built...luv the spray bar cuz it makes a river like stream...


now for ur 45, Eheim Professional 2227 is gd(buy it on ebay , its cheaper , I bot my on ebay) , built in heater and has a hole for ur c02 methinks..ppl say the pro 2 eheim filters are the best..but ur selctions u have there r gd too

I would reccomend either a Eheim Classic 2215 or 2217.

If you would like to spend a little more then i would consider the Eheim Professional range.

Would it be possible to split the incoming and outcoming pipes to do 2 tanks with a larger load? I need 2 filters and am not really interested in getting 2 filters that overfilter these. Both are 20g.

You could do it if both tanks were on the same level & you bridged them. Without doing this one would eventually fill faster than the other & overflow.

Would making the lower of the 2 tanks have a longer hose, and the one to the top a shorter hose. Would this be feasable. Though i have to take into place gravity as well. Would this be feasable or only the height issue would nee to be solved.

The only reliable way is to put the two tanks on the same level & bridge them. Even if you did manage to get valves set up to the point that it seems even, eventually one would flow more or less than the other, causing one tank to overflow. Length of hoses does nothing to compensate for this.

If you set up a sump filtration system with overflows you could run multiple tanks off of the sump filter.
