Ehiem ecco external filter

I'm thinking about getting an Eheim Ecco 2234 (link) for my 30G (UK) tank. Are they suitable for newbies, has anyone got one or got any opinions? I just wanted to make the most of the room available, so thought swapping the internal filter for an external might be a good idea.

Eheim are, in my opinion, the best external filters available. I would say, however, the Ecco range are simply average. They introduced them to compete price wise with other makes, and the build quality is lower as a result. If you can find a similaly rated "Classic" range Eheim, it'll be better in the long run.

That said, either would be less fiddly then a Fluval or worse.
