Eheim Wet/Dry Filters

I am planning to get the Eheim 2327 Wet/Dry thermo filter for my new 55 gal malawi tank. Has anybody got any experience with these???

Although there are excellent adverts about how good wet/dry are, I wouldn't buy any of them - they are noise! Many hobbiests, who have wet/dry filters, have stopped filters to work as in "dry-mode" - so those filters aren't taking air all the time and work like normal filter.
