Hi Folks, I'm considering an external Eheim Thermofilter. I would greatly appreciate any comments on two points. The tank will be in a first-floor room, so I need to ensure there are no leaks, or at least minimize the possibility! How reliable are Eheims (and associated pipework) in this regard? Secondly, how reliable is the heating element and in case of failure is a spare element available?
Very many thanks.

Leak-wise, if well maintained, Eheims are very reliable :good: Heating wise, most Eheim dealerships and reps will admit there is a known reliability issue with the temperature probes. Most shops will stock, or be able to get quickly, Eheim spares :good:

If you want external heating, IMO, you'd be best off using a non-thermo version of most of the Eheim ranges (don't buy an Ecco, they are rubbish, but Pro's, Pro2's, non-electronic Pro3's and Classics should all be fine), and then add onto them a Hydor in-line external heater :good:

All the best

Many thanks Rabbut for the reply. I had just started to investigate Hydor external heaters as an alternative, so will go along with your suggestion.
All the best, Mike
