Ok may sound stupid but my tank is about 1months cycled and still contains the internal filter (rio 400) but it also runs a Fluval 405. I want to replace the internal with a larger Canister that also contains the Heater which really leaves me with only a Eheim Thermo. Looking a the large 2180 just wondering who has one and how do you find it reliability etc (its alot of money) and obvioulsy i want to cycle the filter but am not sure if its advisable to do this yet as my tank is relatively "young". I cant see it being a problem but how long should i run the new external on the tank before removing the old internal?

I have the 2180 on my vision 450 - excellent filter - best choice you could have made! Its a lot of money i know, but is worth it imo. Remeber though, it dosent come with media but you can buy the media set seperate.

I would run the jumbo, 2180 and the 405 for about a month .

Let us know how you get on, Adam

i have a spare load of Bio Max which will fill a fair bit i expect.

WHere did you get yours from nowehere near me that actually sells them!

You could just put all your already cycled media into the new filter.

Also, instead of getting a whole new filter, you could save money and get an inline hydor heater and add it to your 405.

I need another External canister my tank has Oscars in it the messy buggers.

The Theroms are as unreliable as Eccos supposdly. Slightest bit of salt or if you are in a hard water area, and the sensors break fairly soon in, jamming the element on, cooking your fish  Even Eheim have admitted the issue to a few members on here, when they spoke to Eheim about problems. Get the non-therom version of the filter, and a Hydor in-line, more reliable, and you don't have the heater in the tank :good:

All the best
Rabbut

EDIT, that will teach me for skimming the thread. Too late, it's ordered  I'd see if I couldn't arrange a swap with the supplier...
