My Eheim Pro 3 2080 is really on the blink atm flow is almost negligable :-(

Impellor shaft is intact and no damage to blades which do spin when powered up.

No trapped air / system was completely torn down and reassembled.

The issue seems to be with pumping power as if I put the output hose over a bucket if flows fine (if a fair bit underpowered compared to before) but if I raise the output hose up to the height of the tank it struggles to pump at all. Its been drained and primed 3 times and stripped down once but its just not doing the job at all thank god I had 2 filters running which coupled with every internal i could scrounge seem to be maintaing water quality for now..

The flow indicator doesnt seem to move much and the really odd thing is if I hold the prime button down then the flow is as it should be its only when I let it go that the flow sucks,

Any suggestions would be welcomed im all out of ideas after draining/repriming/strip down.

Is there any way to force the prime button down constantly (Gaffa tape?) as a stop gap till you get a better answer? Or will that break something?

Sadly not its spring mounted like you wouldnt believe its actually very painful to push it its take so much force :-(

Well it sounds like when the prime isn't engaged it is causing a blockage of some sort, is it possible something is lodged in there and is moved out of the way when you engage it? I'm not sure how the internals work so just throwing suggestions in.

Maybe e-mail or call eheim and explain problem and ask them for suggestions. It may have happened before and they know possible causes and solutions.

What filter media setup have you got in the 2080?

Presuming it has baskets like my 2078, could any present pads be clogged up, or are you using media like Substrat Pro?

Is the impeller magnet shaft and/or the cavity bunged up?

I bought the eheim media back so its all efi substrat pro and efi mech I think ?

Turns out theres a while plastic things that held down by the inpellor ring cover and it had popped out from underneath meaning the water was being redirected into the filter head and not out of the outflow. Charterhouse Aquatics gave me a number for Eheim UK and a really helpful chap ran me through various things before we found the cause.
