I started out with an Emperor 400 HOB filter for my 55 gallon tank -- then upgraded to an Eheim Pro 2026. I kept the Emperor running while the Eheim got established. I've had both running now for over 5 months. I've just been reluctant to reduce the filtration by removing the Emperor.

However, the Emperor is noisy so I replaced it with an Aqua Clear today and now my water is cloudy. Perhaps I did not rinse the media well enough? Is this normal?

And now I'm thinking, do I even need to have two filters? I believe the Eheim 2026 is rated for up to 90 gallons. But, I have a pretty full tank which includes a 5 inch plec. (Although, his "waste" doesn't even get filtered. It collects on the bottom in a big pile and I siphon it out 3-4 times a week.)

Any opinions whether or not the Eheim would be fine on its own?

if all the crap is building up in one spot you need better water movment as you have dead spots

why not run both?????i would if i had 2 externals.i have a 55 gallon with an internal and a eheim 2028.
