Eheim Pro 2 Problem With Priming

hello, i recently got a second hand pro2 filter, its all running fine but when i come to change the filter pad and give it a clean I always have trouble getting primed when im done, is there a trick to this or am i missing something?

make sure teh outlet is not submerged when you open the taps
