I have an Eheim filter with inbuilt heater and it seems to be playing up. The digital readout is flickering between numbers all the time. Anything from 08.4 upto 34. And the heater is constantly on. Have tried unplugging it and leaving it for a bit but it starts playing up again about a week later. But now even that isn't working. So I guess I will have to keep unplugging it to make sure that it doesn't heat the water too much. Just until I get a new one.

Is this a common thing? I thought Eheim were a reliable brand.

I got it with the tank when I swapped with a mate. Its about a year and a half old. He doesn't have the receipt though so not much I can do! Just wondered if it was a common thing for them to fail? As will be getting a larger tank within the next 6 months so would be wanting to buy another but I will buy another brand if Eheim heaters are known for failing?

Have got a stand alone heater on the way that will do for now.

This happened to me-I had nothing but trouble with my thermo heater (constant build up of air in it-someone else on this forum had the same problem) and eventually replaced it with a Tetratec 700 and an internal heater. The Tetratec is an excellent filter, perhaps not as solidly built as the eheim, but there are one or two touches that are better than the Eheim. I think with Eheim you pay for the name to be honest, and in my experience it isn't very good, but I'm aware that I'm in something of a minority there. I've always bought Eheims in the past, but no more.
But do disconnect the heater now unless you want poached fish.

Ok so I wont be buying an Eheim heater then. Will buy a stand alone heater. But I will have an Eheim filter as I have no problems with the filter itself and the water is always crystal clear :good:
