Eheim Gravel Cleaner

Hi All, Is the Eheim Gravel cleaner advisable to clean a sand sustrate or should I continue to use the manual syphon method.
Cheers John.
Hi John, I could have sworn that the instructions advise that it is not suitable for cleaning sand but I've just checked them again and can't see that anywhere...maybe it was on the box?

I use mine to do a mid-week clean-up on my malawi tank, which has a coral sand substrate (so a bit coarser than standard aquarium or play sand), however, I tend to swirl it around above the substrate in order to loosen and suck up the detrius, rather than plunge it in so therefore only a small amount of sand actually gets into it. It's worked fine like this so far and the filter section appears to be doing a good job of preventing anything potentially damaging reaching as far as the impeller/motor, so I'm hopeful that there won't be any issues...but you never know.

I used mine on sand and was fine , i just took a way all of the attachments bit as much as you could without the spinning bit coming out. I found the seal fr the battery compartment went on mine so now im back to using siphon.

TBH if you are not botherd emptying your tank a bit the siphon method is sooo much easier. if you want to not change the water the eheim one is fine.
