Hello I am considering using sand in my tank soon. I am looking at using aragonite sand. I am worried that it might get sucked up the filter which I have read is bad. Would the eheim pre-filter stop this from happening? I also noticed eheim has a pre-filter and a surface extractor. Can both of these be used at the same time? Here's the products I've been looking at: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...cfm?pcatid=3614

Thanks

I use sand, and just cut the intake, so as its about 2 inches above the surface - no probs at all :good:

I assume you have your reasons for using aragonite and are aware of it's chemical properties. As Rooster says, just shorten the inlets, I also have sand, (swimming pool filter sand), and have no problems. It is true that excessive sand going through a filter will erode the impellor and housing.
