Hi
I am looking up grade my filtration & wanted opinions on the eheim prof 3 2075 vs. Classic 2217 for my 250l tank. i currently have a 1200lph internal powerhead for a wet dry overhead tray system and its terrible im getting floating particules looks like dust ive played around with filter pads and have purigen but it still looks 'dirty' ... i can do a 50% wc and 24hrs its the same.
I have narrowed it down to the 2217 or the 2075 aside from the obvious price difference whats the difference/benefits of one to the other? Has anyone got either of these systems what are the pros/cons? How quiet are they really - it will be in my living room... will i hear it despite being in the cabinet??

I'd still suggest the 2217.
the new pro's from Eheim are still having teething problems, or some are, anyway.

Thanks for that, just as i thought... I have read about some people experiencing leaks ...
How quiet is the 2217? Is there any reason why its so much cheaper? i appreciate its a much simpler system but is it still good? i am pretty much sold on eheim so would any other type be worth considering? like most i dont have a never ending pocket but i will be using my birthday money which is in a couple of weeks and dont want to regret my purchase id rather contribute to what i get & get a good reliable quiet system, my ocd tendancies need crystal clear water it does my head in seeing bits floating hahaha!!

Thanks aquascaper... Just what i needed to hear!

well the 2217 is not the quietest filter Eheim make, if I'm honest.
for those you would need to look at SH pro's, pro 2's or the older pro 2080's.
my 2224's are totally quiet. indeed only the water flowing from the spraybar, is evidence they are working at all.

I'm an Eheim fan (if you couldn't guess)but wouldn't touch the "new Eheim pro's".
they have yet to prove they are REAL Eheims. and have a patchy reliability record so far.

this said, the same was true of the first 2080's. but in the end they became a byword for quality and reliability.
one can only hope the same will prove true of the new Pro's.

I bought a 2217 for my 125 gallon tank and you have to pretty much touch it to make sure its on once its running properly after priming it and the air is out of the hose. I loved it so much I went out and bought two more so now I have 4 running on my 3 tanks and took out my Over the Back AquaClear 110's

The site im looking states it does not come with taps... are they necessary? After looking on ebay theres appears to be more than one so should i have single or twin 9mm or 12mm? Thanks again

the 2217 is normally sold with double taps (they are a must).
if it aint, look for somewhere that does sell em complete.
I'd also suggest you junk the "foam" media and get yourself a Eheim media set for the 2217.
or better still look for a deal that includes filter, taps tubes and Eheim ceramic media.

I had no idea they sold it without the taps, one of my eheim's have no taps but thats because it was 2nd hand and one of the pieces broke and I'm trying to find a replacement. The non tap version must be the ones sold without media, which also seems weird to me

Very odd... Link below. it seems to come with a complete media setup just missing the taps ummmm will see if i can match the price elsewhere...

Usually the complete media is the blue pad, the ceramic tubes, and the small round balls. The ones that just have the blue pads are the ones that dont come with the taps and thats all the site seems to sell

I have got: classic 2213, classic 2217, pro 2 2028, pro 3 2075 and I can honestly say the pro 3 is by far the best imo, That being said all the filters work perfectly I wouldn't get any other make when it comes to filters just eheim.

Reason why I like the pro 3 is the amount of media you can fit in to the thing! And how easy it is to clean and its overall performance, it runs silent and the water is always crystal clear also the flow has not slowed down at all over 6 months.

But, which ever you go for you will be happy with the results. :good:

i just got myself a new 2180 thermal of ebay for £260 boxed

does anyone know if the eheim surface skimmer is any good, easy to fit?
