Ok so i'm at the stage where i want to get a new filter but i'm not sure which one to go for.
The choice is between the eheim 2213 and the fluval 104, this is to be used in a new tank that i am setting up to replace my current one and the new size is below

Dimensions: 91cm L x 30cm W x 46cm H/36" L x 12" W x 18" H
Volume: 127 l./28 gal.
Volume after displacement: 115 l./25 gal.
Surface area: 0.28 sq m/3.00 sq ft

The eheim i have found for around £50 on the net and the fluval i have found for £45 in pets at home.

So any advice? which one has the overall edge? including ease of use/media change etc

Thanks for any info offered

I only have Eheim filters now. I have used many types over the decades, but the build quality and lifetime of Eheims is so superior, I won't have anything else.

I expect Fluvals have improved, but I always found them fiddly, and they inevitable had a slow leak so had to be stood in a washing up bowl or bucket. I also didn't like the ribbed tubing that some models came with . it was difficult to connect to other items like sterilisers and additional stages.

If someone was going to give me a new Fluval, I'd try it out for sure, I wouldn't buy one though.

Yeah i'm more inclined to go for a eheim at the moment and i have just found one over at uk-aquatics.com for a decent price so it looks like that will be the winner :D
I have also just found that i could save a some cash on my tubes over there as well (Just placed an order for a 24" life glo and now they want £24)

I have had a fluval 104 running for nearly 12months, has bin exelent no troubles at all and my water changes have gone from once a week to every two weeks

ps i am running a 130l tank so should be no bother for you

I don't have either of the exact models, but I do have 2 204's and did have a 404 which I replaced with an Eheim 2229 Wet/Dry filter, and I have to say the Eheim is built to a substantially higher standard than the fluvals. I would go with the eheim, I don't think it'll do a significantly better job of filtering your tank, but the extra £5 you spend will be worth it in the long run!! I'm going to slowly replace the rest of my my fluvals with Eheims now!!
