I love Eheim external filters, so I went looking for a budget internal one fromt he same manufacturer, however these look really cheap and tacky to me, almost as if they dont filter a thing....

Has anyone used these? Other people seem to rave about them... how many aquaballs columns would I need for a 30 gallon tank, they come with one, but ive seen some with 3 or more attached...

thanks!

I have a couple of these and to be honest am not impressed! They clog up very quickly and I now only use them in 18" tanks. I have got one that has the three compartments and they are as bad as the smaller ones..Fluval internals seem far better :/

I've used aquaball's in a 30 gallon and my 20 gallon tank and i've never had a problem with them very easy to use and clean, the flow is not that powerful on them so probably best to use them on tanks where you don't want a lot of current. the replacement sponges can be hard to find but i just cut up fluval ones to fit now! For a 30 gallon tank i recommend the 2212 which comes with 3 compartments so lots of media surface for that bacteria they also have a smaller compartment where you can put in charcol or filter wool. I've always prefered them to the fluvals because i think they look nicer and if you want you can add more filter compartments or easily swap them between filters. But some peopl edon't like them its all a matter of opinion i think! :p

got it yesterday, the 2122, its lovely... really like it.

bit of a shame i couldnt get more power when the air is switched on also, but i dont mind, its quite a good flow around the tank.

nicely cycling with my three dead prawns decaying :)

would i buy another one? definately, its great, plus i didnt get any active carbon, which i preferred.

love the rotating head
