Eheim 2232 Vs Fluval 105 (or Other Suggestions)

Thats 1/16th of my student loan gone
ROFL!!! :fun:

I knew some eeejit friend-of-a-friend at college who blew his ENTIRE grant on an Arcam Amp / Marantz CD & Wharfedale speaker set up and vowed 'to live of porridge for 3 months'.

Apparently he was the first person (in Britain) for 70 years to have got SCURVEY!!! -_-

How we laughed!

Lol, done that last summer. Got myself a logitech 1000W 5.1 DTS sound system. Only cost me £200. Ok, it isnt as good as Yamaha NS-1000's (Which are like 15 years old but still the best monitors that have ever been built!) but still whoops most sound systems. Wharfdale speakers are probably better tho thaan mine lol. .. Just maybe lol. But still, its not every day that you have to keep your speakers down cuz they are effecting the fish lol.

Aparently fish don't mind....

Some dude wuz askin 'bot tanks in night clubs etc.

Anywho, my tank is next to my Leak Stereo 20 Valve amp & Leak speakers & they don't seem to mind either.

hehe. Thats excellent news. Time to get back the full 1000 watts.

My next stupid question is: My filter has arrived and its all set up. However, There is some media that came with the filter. It looks the same shape and size as kellogs rocco pops (the shape of a ball) There are no instructions as to what to do with them. There seems to be space at the bottom of the filter for them, however, i dont want to take any risks. Should i put it at the bottom.

There are no instructions as to what to do with this stuff, but assumably, it should be self explanitory. Whether i'm not looking at the pages properly or something dumb like that, i dont know, but i just cant see anything explaining what to do with it. Anyone with an eheim ecco able to shed some light is greatly welcomed.

Thanks all!

Paul.

Can't believe noones suggested the Tetratec EX600. I have an EX700 on my 125.

My EX700 cost £49.99 from Zooplus, then I got £3 discount for being a new customer and its free postage.

So for £46.99 it was a bargain and it comes with 2 x 2m hoses, adjustable inlet tube, adjustable spraybar, close suckers for plain glass sides, bridged suckers for tanks with lips. It is complete with all the media for each of the 4 trays, and is dead easy to set up and is silent as a (I have mine in an enclosed cabinet under the tank so vibrations would ring through the whole structure if they were happening!)

EX600 is cheaper as well

link for you
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/technic...r_filters/19461

Someone posted a link that was to practical fishkeeping showing how easy to set it up it was although they didn't bother to read the instructions and filled the cannister with water when all you have to do is push the prime button once or twice and it does it all for you. lol

Andy

Cheers. That does :) Stupidly enough though, i forgot to look on the box itself and theres a HUGE picture of the same thin lol. Typical eh

Works on mine

Try typing www.zooplus.co.uk

Then click on Fish and then external filters.

Dead Cheap some things and more expensive others as per usual sites.

Well isn't that wierd, it works now. Site must have be down temporarily for a while when I tried it....

I've got a Fluval 305 (300L) on my 112L coldwater aquarium, with fantails, and it's exceptionally powerful, customizable (Spray attachments, various filter media for different jobs, etc), and so so quiet! I really rate the fluval external filters meself.

If only my eheim 2232 was the same :( Its really... and i mean REALLY well made and so,) however, all u get is tubes. I would have preffered having one of those drip bars (i think u call it) as it doesnt move the water so much, but if i am to be having brisslenoses, they will appreciate the extra water movement.

don't mourn the loss of those things. you can buy or DIY a spray bar easily and cheaply. and the things like nitrate removing sponges that you get with the fluvals are a big money making con IMO. the best thing to do is just cram your filter with as much biological medium as possible.

HOB can be just as good as canisters. Stay away from Whisper HOBs since they do a ok job mechanically but they have a lot of bypass and no biological filtration. Some of a small sponge for bacteria growth which usually gets clogged up with crap that the mechanical filter should have grabbed.

Aqua Clear HOBs are VERY nice. Try to get the next size up though from what is rated for your tank. The surface area can be very limited with these but they do an excellent job at filtering. I got a fluval 304 on my 55 and a Aqua Clear 110 on my 30. The aqua clear pumps out a max of 500 gph and have a VERY large surface area and the fluval pumps out 280 I think and probubly has twice as much surface area. Nice thing about aqua clear is that you can turn them down 50% and the other 50% will simply get refiltered many times over. It has very little possible bypass and you can customize how you want it to filter. There is a sponge like you would see in a canister, then I have a scrubbing pad, then BioMax. If you use charcoal I would reccomend putting the charcoal last to make sure the biomax is fully submerged. Its very quiet as long as you have the water level high enough.

I usually strongly go against HOBs but after trying 2 different types of AquaClears, I fell in love with them and highly reccomend them. I still like canister filters because they hide out of the way, and if built right, have ZERO bypass, unlike HOBs..

EDIT: I didn't see the second page. Just realize you got a filter. O well. There is my statement ^

when i got my eheim 2211 I got a spray bar etc with it. I just needed to buy additional filter media and two way taps to get the system set up!

Yes the fluval having all the kit in one box is desirable... but as i said.. you'll never regret buying an eheim!
