Hi,

Thinking of getting a Eheim 2224 to replace my leakey Tetratec piece of rubbish.

The tank is 180 litres and using a Tetratec EX1200 so turnover p/h is about 5x

1. Would going to the eheim with only 700l p/h and a much smaller media area effect the water quality on my tank?

Current stock is

2 x Keyholes
4 x cories
6 x copper harlequins
6 x Jumbo cardinal tetras

thinking of getting another 6x cories

2. How do you prime a 2224? it doesn't have a button :S

3. Does the eheim come with a spraybar or sheperds crook, as I have the annoying the Rena glass supports which will get in they way.

interesting, i will tell you in a few weeks, i am just about to replace my Hydor prime 60 with a 2224. my tank is, roughly, the same size as yours, but with a higher stock level

Well, without a prime botton, you'd likely have to suck on the outlet hose to start the prime, unless the hoses are already full of water...Fun times ahaead of you :shifty: Look into the Pro2's if this bothers you, as they come with primeing buttons ;) I assume that the Pro1's don't have a special type of pipe fitting allowing you to fill the hoses with a jug before opening the valves to prime, as I haven't owned a pro1  . Otherwise, you can get a Rena inlet pipe-set to allow you to fill the hoses before priming :good: The pipe set will cost almost as much as the cost difference between the Pro1's and 2's though...

The filter should be fine for your tank, but less media normally equals more cleaning -_- The turn-over should suffice.

this might help with the priming:

Ah so yes, just like Rena. You close the valves, open a screw at the top of the inlet pipe, fill the pipe with water using a jug, screw the cap back on and then open the valve. This stats your priming syhen. Lots of faffing, but it's a reliable way of doing it :good:

All the best

if you aint got the instructions, where i got this picture from, i could send you it. not sure its really that much help, though it does have a spares list, which is handy for iding parts for replacement.

even tho thay show you the primer kit it is an optional extra on the 2222/2224 you just get the standard sheperds crook with the filter

To prime it you just have to suck on the pipe bit of a pita but there you go

2224 is a nice bit of kit had mine setup a week or so on my rio 125 i have a pro 2 2026 on both my rio 180's. what imho is about right for the 180. the pro 2 is a nice filter just remember to lube the seal when you put it back together after a clean

ps. get your self a tube brush there only 3 quid or so

charterhouse are doing free delivery over 50 quid and 10% off spares when you buy a eheim filter. prices arnt bad either
