Just bought an eheim 2224, and tried to set it up last night, but have hit a snag! So, some ideas would be helpful!
The Kit:
Eheim 2224
Tank: 36" x 12" x 15"
The issue:
The eheim's now come with a 'shepherds crook' security pipe. I can see the reason behind it - good idea eheim! However, it won't fit in my tank properly. I have glass braces going across the front and back, with about an inch gap between the side glass and the brace. That was big enough for my previous filter's pipe work (eheim 2217). However, if I hang the crook on there, the outlet pipe will be going along the depth of the tank - only 12". Once I factor in the crook, adjoining pipe etc, I'm going to have to saw the outlet pipe, and remove about a third of it. Is this a problem?
I can't hang it on the side, as my wooden hood won't fit then. I *could* saw a hole in the hood, but would prefer not to!
My other option was to not use the crook, buy the eheim hose sleeve, and use that to just hang the pipe over the edge of the tank (to stop it kinking). However, I can only find a 9mm & 12mm sleeve online - the output pipe is 16mm.
Any ideas? I'm not sure that sawing the outlet pipe is the best option. When it comes to doing filter changes, I tend to take the cap off the end of the spray bar, so that any air in the filter is quickly expelled. With the (uncapped) end being so close to the edge of the tank, I can see water being sprayed everywhere each time I do a filter clean! Maybe it's just something I'll have to live with!
Answers on a postcard please!
Cheers,
Jee
