a few questions, i have never had an external filter before and i have bought a 2215 as i heard that eheim are really good.

are they easy to set up?

Are they alot better than internal?

Are they loud?

thanks in advance

john

Yeah ive got one, im very happy with it, they are a lot larger than you expect if you have never had an external filter before, i found it easy to set up, had it up and running in probably 20 minutes or something like that.

As to the question are they a lot better than internal filters, well they basically do the same job, but the upside is that they give a lot more possibilities down the road, you can put different filter media in them for a start, you can also run other components off the tubing, for example you could run an external heater or if you ever needed co2 you could run a reactor off them, so yes they are a lot better.

I find mine very quiet and like i say im very happy with it, wouldnt hesitate to buy another one, im sure you wont regret it.

Good luck with it.

Competely silent, rock solid reliable, incredible bio-filtration, mediocre mechanical filtration (both stemming from the low water flow). The simple design makes it a very efficient filter with no water bypass at all - but it's one heck of a pain to clean out. That's my brief and honest review.

Mine would of been great if i read the directions. Now i broke it :-(

Excellent filter - good choice.

I don't have any experience with the 2215, but i do own a 2213 which i'm extremly happy with. From what i have heard, and from the various filters i have used. Ive found them to be the best.

^^^You can prime the cannister that way, but if you have the hose fittings which came with my filter as standard, alls you need to do when you need to work on the filter, is turn your hoses off (which will leave water in the rest of the hose leading to the tank) and do your maintainance and then "refill" the cannister with water from your tank, reconnect the cannister hoses and turn them on, then swith the filter on, and the filter will work immeaditaly, no need to prime at all, and just give the cannister a little shake to get rid of any small airlocks.

Works for me everytime.

Thats is a good tip for anyone with an Eheim external filter, I have a 2317 Thermofilter and it has given me good filtration all the time (touch wood).

The only pain is cleaning it out especially if you do not have the hose attchments.
