Hi, my 5x2x2 ND Aquatics tank is arriving on Tuesday, so I need to be buying-in the rest of the gear to go with it. I'm pretty much decided on the Eheim 2080 as my filter, but am a little worried that it may not fit inside the cabinet properly with all the pipes attached. It's the height I'm mostly concerned about, as ND Aquatics say I've got 645mm to play with, but most of the dimensions I've seen on the net for the Eheim say that's 567mm tall. That only leaves 78mm free and I don't know whether that will be enough to allow for kink-free pipe routing.

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who actually has this particularfilter/cabinet combination, but any comments at all would be very much appreciated. Do you think this combo will work?

i got a nd aquatics tank on tuesday and tbh it seems bigger than what they say! i have the 4x2x2 tank and stand and can comfortably fit a fx5 in which i presume is around the same size as the ehiem if not larger. i got style 3 cabinet not sure if it makes any difference.

Thanks for that. I've gone for style 3 as well and yes, the fx5 and 2080 are a similar size. According to the info on the aquatics-online website the fx5 is wider, but the 2080 is a few cm taller (approx 56cm vs 60cm, allowing for hose attachments they say).

Anyway, having said all that I phoned ND Aquatics just after I posted here to ask them their opinion and at first they said the 2080 might not fit, height wise, without the hoses being 'kinked' but then said that they would make the cabinet a little taller for me to make sure the 2080 would fit properly. I was very impressed with that...superb service, I'd say :)

with 3 inches on top of the filter it should be fine. Ive got abut 4 inches above one of my canisters i had to drill a hole in the back of the cabinet but the pipes are kink free.

If thy say 645mm im sure it will be as there very good with sizes. I gave a size 1/2 inch smaller than the gap it would in and the tank/hood came out perfectly 1/2inch smaller

Ive just got back from nd aquatics. Great company and very helpful.

Yes Chris I agree, definitely a great company and I fully trust the dimensions they gave. But, what's impressed me even more is that they have now told me that they are going to make my cabinet a little taller than the regular 645mm to make sure the 2080 will fit without any problem. So, it might have squeezed in anyway, but now it'll definitely fit. As a result, I've just ordered a 2080 for a great price from Zooplus, as recommended by someone else on here. I'm very happy now and will be moving on to selecting the other gear I need - in particular, I need to decide what sand to go for.

ive said a few time on here about nd. I had hols drilled in the back for returns from the sump. I changed my mind a few times and also changed the weir size. but it never seemed a problem. I also saw a 5x2x2 in there but had a sump next to it.

I'm sure you will be even happy with it when you get it.

edit
I also bought me pumps from zooplus. again great company, came witin 4 days

Most sites are listing the BOX the eheim comes in.

Zooplus have the dimensions of the filter itself. Just add a small amount for the filter pipes. See my thread in the photos forum which have a 2075 within the very same cabinet together with measurements explaining things.
