Hi, before I invest my hard earnt cash on a new Eheim 2080 can anyone tell me if they have seen it cheaper?

The best price I found online was from aquatics-online, the filter is £189.98 and media is £67.44 and free carriage.

Cheers

FYI be careful with the online 'deals' - these are often European models, and if you have any problems, you will have may not be able to get them repaired under warranty. Though to be fair, I've never had a problem with all the eheims I've owned over the years, and at that price!
Another thing to consider before you purchase is the size - these will not allways fit inside a standard cabinet, so check the internal height before you buy - the filter itself is 55cm tall, and then you have the in/out pipes, and even slightly bent, you will need an internal height of something close 58-60cm.

Thanks for the info Martin. It should fit ok in my cabinet as I have 65cm internal height.

You have worried me a bit regarding the imported models, I think its best if I email aquatics-online and see what they have.
Are you aware of anyone who sells UK models for sensible money?

Thanks

The UK models are the ones priced around the £250 mark (i.e. Charterhouse) - my LFS probably couldn't buy a 2080 for £189 as the trade price of UK models is higher. I spoke to my LFS about it, and they told me about the warranty issue, and I know it's not them scare-mongering as I also work there sometimes. As I said, I've never had a problem with Eheims and I have had a few of them over the past 30 years of fishkeeping, but wanted to bring it to your attention. And this also has implications for spares as the wattage for the impellor varies.
Definitely check with the online supplier and get them to confirm your warranty is valid in the UK before parting with you money. Also be aware all prices do not include media, which is around £75 when purchased with the filter.

Thanks again. I have been lucky enough to get my lfs (chain) to price match, i have paid for it so fingers crossed it will be in Wednesday. I was aware of the extra cost with the media, makes it quite an expensive filter when you factor that in to the price.

That was a result!
Yes, the smaller models all come with media, but not the 2080. Obviously you don't need to use ehem specific media with the exception of the filter pads, but I have always found it the best out there.
Good luck and hope it works out for you.
