Hi all

I have an eheim 2078 3e canister filter that i have not been using for about 6 months as i moved house and i am now in the process of setting up my tank again!!

I did a leak test to make sure all was working but the flow rate of my filter is 575 lph at max setting. This is with no media in the filter at all.

could someone explain how i am supposed to clean the impeller housing, as i am not too sure and im hoping this will help.

I was getting 800lph when it was set up 6 months ago so im not too sure what has happened!!

Thanks all!!

Firstly, were you measuring the filter's output when it was in maximum manual mode? To do this, hold the "S" button until you get a flashing light, then press it again. You then get a static yellow light at the bottom of the scale and can then go mad pressing the "+" button, in a quietish room you can hear the motor ramping up.

In terms of the impeller and its housing, all I have ever done is twist the red outer caging to remove it and then carefully used some long nosed pliers to pull the impeller out of its cavity. I then wipe off the slime (using a some water and a fish only toothbrush if necessary) around the impeller magnet. So far I've not felt the need to clean the impeller cavity, but a damp cotton bud should do the trick.

Another factor that could be slowing down the output is build up of algae/debris/limescale inside the pipes and spraybar, something I have yet to attempt to clean but plan to try sometime this year (along with possibly grabbing one of those USB connectors to monitor and tweak the operation modes far more than can be done on the standard unit).

ok so i decided to clean and now i have just tested it using the sink. the filter is operating at 1065 lph with no media ect and as that is the max setting on the software im guessing it is as good as!!

may replace the hoses instead of trying to clean them again. need some very long brushes to get inside them.
