After years of doing different combos of UGF's and HOB filters, I've decided it's time to give cannisters a try. I've seen lots of positive comments about the Eheim 2026, but I'm kinda drawn to the 2126 -- the integrated heater would mean I'd have that much less "equipment" on display in my 54-gal corner tank. Here's my question: I've seen a freshwater and a marine version of the 2126. Mine is a freshwater tank, but I've recently started adding salt (1 Tablespoon/5 US gal) for general disease prevention. Any chance this amount of salt would corrode the heating element in the freshwater version of the 2126? Perhaps the marine version would last longer, or perhaps I should dodge the whole issue and go with the 2026 ... anyone have any opinions to share? Thanks in advance.

As far as what amount of salt would start corroding the heating element you should probably be directing that question to eheim themselves. I know their customer service department is excellent as far as answering questions, etc. I wouldn't think that amount of salt would hurt the element but I'm not the expert on it. I'm running a 2128 on one of my tanks and wouldn't hesitate to get another one if/when I set up another tank.

I sent an inquiry to Eheim. Their reply was that 1 Tb per 5 US gal should not be a problem, but they recomended half that concentration if you want to be safe. Just thought I'd share...
