Hi,

How do people get around breeding egg scattering species?  Is there a mesh you can put in to let the eggs fall through so the parents don't eat them.  Surely it's a real problem?

Thanks

most egg scattering fish need somthing to spawn on like a spawning mop. if you want to deliberatly breed your fish its best to seperate a breeding pair into a seperate tank with a spawning mop or big ball of java moss. once theyve spawned remove the parents. if your fish are spawning in your regular tank most of the eggs will get eaten by the other fish. i know from experience. my silver tip tetrs spawn every two weeks. but havent had a single fry.

If you put them into a marble-bottomed tank to spawn, then remove the parents. The eggs fall through the marbles so the parents can't eat them!
