Does anyone know the effect of loud noises on fish?

I ask because I have a rather beefy soundsystem in the same room as my fish, and when I play music the SubWoofer makes a hell of a vibration on the ground. The fishtank is on the opposite side of the room, and is elevated above the ground... I've put my hand on it and can't feel any sound vibration, and my fish aren't doing anything different.

Will my fish be able to hear/feel the vibrations from the subwoofer? And if so, will it freak them out?

not unles the stand/cabnit theyre on/in is vibrating becuz if that vibrates so does the tank. for instance my 2 foot is in a a cabnit/ shelf type thing and if i smake the wood around it relly hard with somin my frish get frightend for a sec or 2 cuz it vibrates the wodd wich vibrates the tank.

If you put your hand on it and it wasn't vibrating then it should be fine. My 30 gallon is also right near a speaker and I can turn it up as loud as I want as long as the tank does not start vibrating.....then my cichlids run and take cover.

the Noice itself will not bother the fish....it is the vibration you need to worry about.

better still put a glass to the tank and listen.

I was wondering this as the sound of my pumps, weir etc drive me mad, so I was worried for my fishies going bonkers too.

Fish are for the most part deaf, at least when it comes to this. They do feel vibration though like the above posts said. Some can't take any vibration and freak out, others don't mind. My 30gallon Cory tank is on my dresser and none of my Cories care when I open or close the drawers but the Catfish and Goldfish I used to keep in it would freak out.
