Eel- like fish

Is there any type of freshwater eel that can be kept in a 36x12x18" tank, if so please specify to me what type and if not is there any eel look-a-like fish that will live in this tank. e.g. knife fish, loach etc.

Rope Fish look snakey enough. They are sometimes sold as rope eels.

If you do decide to get one of these, be warned: They are master escape artists! You will need a tight-fitting lid with all holes blocked up.

Rope fish can reach a couple of feet in length so are too large for a 36" tank.

Actually spiney eels are not true eel (Anguillidae) but just fish that have evolved to be eel like in appearance to make the most of their habitat much in the same way as Khulie loaches have.
