it's not a fire or peacock or tyre track...

it's something else.

I'm really hoping that this is a "flame" as you all call it, so it would fit into the tank nicely.

i kept one for 6 months they are great eels,i did not find it shy or nocturnal at all quite the opposite, problem was they stay so small so i had to rehome it.mikey has one and he will tell you the same thing they are very outgoing eels :good:

Its a half banded, like mine :hyper:
Best of my three eels, allways, and i mean allways out...Not shy at all, and very outgoing, watch out when syphoning the tank, mine allmost got sucked up.
Search through pics from me and youll be able to see mine :good:
They should stay about 7-8" max.

Mikey

catfisharecool - are you sure? I guess that might be what I got from nmonk's scientific. apparently 6 months and they're territorial towards others of the same kind.

and yes, my bugger is out in the plants now even more than the peacocks are.

Yours has more "mottleing" over the upper band than mine does, but if you have a look at my topics in the photo forum, you will see the resembleance straight away. The photos of mine on here are mostly blurred because of him/her moving so much

Great fish

Mikey

these eels have bags of personality much more lively than fire eels.its a shame i had to get rid of mine he was cool, but it started to look a spaghetti dinner for my big fish and i didnt have another tank it could go in at that time.i have not seen one in any other lfs before or after that.
great pick up gank :good:

indeed, Half-Banded Spiny Eel See Macrognathus circumcinctus. so it's confirmed. Apparently these guys are territorial just a tad, and that's why they're more active. My peacocks have been out and a bout more since he's been in too. I hope it's not agression, but just the fact that another spiny eel is in that makes them so hyper.

See told ya Gank :D
Yeah theyre cool, but he hasnt been teratorial since ive had him to the other eels, and ive had mine, what 4 months ish.
Hes grown quite abit
How bigs yours?

Mikey

mine's already at that 5-6 inch mark, and there was one in the store even bigger that had a mate apparently, that kept constantly curling up with him. I didn't want to split the pair, and I only wanted 1, and the next day a good friend of mine bought the big one, and hwen I pointed the pair out, even got the second one, going into his gracious 135 gallon with peacock eels and other such things, Hopefully at that volume they might reach their entier length of 15 inches instead of the typical 6 in aquaria.

Well Macrognathus circumcinctus, which is the species i have, and the species you have wont reach anything near 15inches in the wild, never mind in our tanks, or even the persons who you knows...
Their max wild size is 20cm, which is 8"...

Mike

ahhhh, my misread somewhere, or misinformation. thanks for the clear up :good:

Its ok
Both of ours, (and your friends, who you may want to inform will get to about 7" if he has big fish...) will get no bigger than 8". Theyre great little charachters, and i dont know if yours has been out much, but mines much more active than my other eels.
