My eel died randomly the other day. All other fish in tank are doing good. No they did not do it. He was a baby zigzag eel. I fed him regular fish food and sinking pellets

Sorry for your loss - eels are awesome. :( How old was he? It might have been that he was too young to be transferred.

Are you sure it actually ate? Did you see it eating well? Young ones need a lot of food, and they are predators, thus many of them don't eat regular fish foods at all. My fire eel eats nothing else but muscels and shrimps, fresh, and daily.

I have to agree with Iriva, I cant believe a zig zag eel or any eel ate sinking pellets and fish food , they have particular dietary need and can be difficult to get to feed on non live food at the best of times, I would imagine its not eaten and faded

my fire eel's favorite food is krill. Yes, good idea to watch and see if they are eating. I know mine eats because she refuses to feed herself, she prefers to be hand fed. rotten eel :D

Tank size and other fish? Might also be a factor.

Im thinking if you have a course gravel substrate it might have harmed itself via abrasion, and the sore/wonds from trying to burrow in such substrate caused secondary infection and killed it. Hence why sand or a smooth small grain substrate is best for all eels or even soft/non scaled fish for that matter.
