Actually, that could BE something they're trying to breed into the bettas over there. After all, the durn thing looks like one of the fish pokemon and pokemon is still pretty huge over there. It might be a stretch, but I could see them doing it, and there are pokemon enthusiasts that would pay that much for a betta if it looked kinda like a pokemon.
I and my boyfriend were just commenting the other day that the markings on the Seaking pokemon do look like some bettas we've seen. Personally, I think it looks awful, and I wouldn't pay that much for it, but you never know what kind of crazy things people will do. I'm mostly afraid that someone would buy it because it looks like a pokemon and not know the first thing about actually taking care of it...especially considering that pokemon are kept in little red and white balls that are smaller than they are.
