I have been told that I have been having diatom bloom in my 2 gallon betta tank (thanks to all who figured that out). This has been happening for some time now. I am on the third day of treating the betta with Melafix for slight fin rot, and the diatoms are everywhere. It is on the substrate and is starting to patch up on the sides of the tank.

Is it OK to do a water change in the middle of a melafix treatment (before it says to change the water)?

Yes it ok to do a water change, I would use salt with the finrot and even a salt bath.

OK. Would you be able to explain to me what a salt bath entails? I have heard people talk about them, but have never really known what it was all about.
