I just got over finrot with Monk and the very next morning I looked in and Eddie was in his castle. He always goes in there, but when i tap the top of the water, he comes zooming out. Not this morning, however. He slowly came out and he was COVERED in yellow dust. I was so upset. (this was about 5 days ago) Did a water change, full and put him in a hospital tank that I had set up earlier just in case. (Good thing, too) He was in a terrible terrible state. He was yellow instead of blue, he was gasping for air in the bottom of the tank, rolling around on his side and looking wilted. He would slowly swim to the top every now and then for air, but always sink bck down. There had been no signs of any recovery for 4 days. (I've been using bettamax until I get my paycheck to buy something for his velvet.) Today however, he swam off the bottom when he saw me and he attempted to eat. He'd attack his food and thrash around for some reason, and not be able to eat the pellet. But at least he was showing signs of life. Now he's spending a bit more time swimming around instead of just coming up for air.

God I hope he pulls through. He's the best. I couldn't stand to lose Vic to Dropsy and then Eddie to Velvet in the same month. I don't know HOW he managed to contract this, either. His water is always kept clean. I do changes all the time, not full so that some bacteria stays in the gravel. I always baste up the poop and extra food in the mornings. *sigh*

What meds to you guys suggest for a pretty bad case of velvet?
