Which do you think is a better choice for a planted tank, or do you think they're both the same?

We're planning on doing a 50/50 mix with playground sand unless someone has a better idea.

I have flourite and once you get the water clear its all good. I have not experience with ecocomplete though, sry.

If you're going to mix with sand then flourite would be the better choice. Eco-Complete tends to look best by itself.

If we didn't mix it, and used just the ecocomplete, would we be increasing our algae problems by having too many nutrients? Ecocomplete is probably just going to be easier to get ahold of... but doing a 50/50 mix will save us 100 dollars.

I have a 55 gallon tank, I mixed a bag of Fluorite with about an inch layer of silica sand. The bag of fluorite cost me $25, can't remember how much it weighed though.

Good luck putting it in!

Fluorite comes in 15 lb bags. Do you think the single bag in your tank made a noticeable differnce in the health of your plants?

Also, where did you get the silica sand?

This is my first planted tank, but I definitely feel that I used enough of it. I don't know how much of a difference it made to the growth and health of my plants, but mine are doing great so I'd recommend it.

I got the silica sand from my LFS. It was about 12 bucks for.. umm.. a big bag :D
