Today I'll be picking up a 2.5 glass aquarium for my two new adfs. I have a huge bag of eco-complete that I planned on using for their tank because I wanted to do a planted tank. However, after researching some more, I saw that adfs can accidentally swallow small gravel, which can then can impaction in their bodies. Would eco-complete be safe for them or should I just use sand?

I've heard of problems with CLAWED frogs swallowing substrate because of the way that they eat, but never ADFs. o_O I haven't had a problem with any of mine, and they spent a year or so in a tank with small gravel. I think, for ADFs, sand might be more detrimental. I know for clawed frogs that people suggest using sand or larger substrate, but there are also a lot of people that say that, if you don't use the really fine sand, they can get impacted with that as well.

I've never seen Eco-Complete in person, so I don't know how small the smallest bits are, but my ADFs eat from the surface, and they don't shovel their food in like ACFs. So you might be okay using that. In fact, I think I'm going to look into getting myself some of that for my 6 gal. Hope this was at least semi-helpful. :)
