Searching Lake Ontario for tropical fish...No luck
I have a corner tank, 90 gal US. I doubt Ill ever find a canopy for it, so im goin to try and make a DIY lighting system. I dont want it to be too complex (right now Im just using a desk lamp... ) i'd rather id be lightweight also. I know this is aksing for a lot but ne ideas would be very much appreciated!

Have a piece of glass cut for the top and have it cut smaller from front to back so there is room for the filter etc. Then get plastic hinges like these

there is also the handle whch will slide onto the glass and the back stripe so its tighter fitting. Then just cut the hinge and back strip to the size of your tank. After that you can read some posts on making lights or just go buy a light that fits your new top

HTH only thing I could think of. :D
Look at it this way at least its an idea and the 1st at that!! :D

A glass top would definitely be the easiest, and probably cheapest. Just get a glass shop to cut the pieces to fit.

However, if you want a real "cover it up" canopy, that would be a bit more difficult, especially because I think corner tanks are bowed in the "front". Is that right?

If so, you'd have to bend whatever material is used for the vertical portion of the "front". I'm not sure how you'd do this with wood (I'd guess it would involve a few clamps, maybe some water, and some time). I suppose you could do it with plastic, or some thin metal, and only have it braced on the corners, or perhaps the corners and one small "post" in the middle.

Edit: by the way, All-Glass Aquarium does make a glass top (called a Versa-Top) for their 92 gallon corner bow tank. Also, Oceanic Systems (a subsidiary of AGA) makes both 90-gallon and 92-gallon corner bowfronts, and I'm sure their dealers have ready-made canopies for them available. May be pricey, though.

hey drobbins i dont know if this will help but i bought a hardwire light fixture at home depot for 10 bucks it has a flat round part about 10inches round that goes flush with the ceiling and has three adjustable lights that protrude from it kind of like track lighting. these are moveable to probably around 180 degrees and the best part is you can put in whatever color light bulb you want ven three different colors if you are relly adventourous. as far as the glass goes you could probably find a piece of glass somewhere for cheap if not free due to spring cleanup or at your local transfer station. it might sound cheap but then its a lot cheaper to just have the glass cut
i hope this will help
