easy access to tank

stage 1 of my cunning plan is now complete, and we move into a bigger flat in 2 weeks

stage 2 is now underway, i'm shopping around for a decent tank. i've seen one for sale and it looks great but it seems to have restricted access to the tank (it's set inside a wooden unit). from what i can see from the pic, you can only access the top of the tank from a vertical opening in the front of the unit, directly above the tank. the hole is as wide as the tank but only about 20cms high

do you think this would cause me much grief when setting up and maintaining the tank?

I'm not sure I understand. You only have 20cm's in which to get to the top of the tank? Like to do wc's etc?

Either way, I like total access to my tank personally.

don't know if the little door thing is hinged on the top or the bottom

i realise full access would be great, but this is a nice looking piece of furniture which i could get quite cheap

LOL, that was pretty good.

Well, I guess as long as you could do wc's easily it would be ok except when you have to add large objects to the tank or net the fish.

Love the drawing! I think though it may give you a run for your money. I am awlays "in" my tank redoing thing's, moving rocks around , prunning the plants etc. I have a wood topper. The whole top flips up for access but I found I have to remove the whole thing during water changes so I can actually reach the gravel without needed a stool to stand on ( which I fell off of before ) When I do anything to the tank I have to have someone help get the topper off and then replace it when I'm done. Yes they really look nice, makes the tank more like a peice of furniture but it's a pain. I have asked for a new tank for Christmas and also reguested that no topper was to come with it LOL
