hi i was wondering what is the easiest small type of cichlid to breed. beraing in mind i have a 16 gallon tank. ive conqured live bearers and want somewhat a little chalenging

eygptain mouthbrooders, i have a breeding pair from modaz and he managed without any difficulties to breed them,,, havent had them long so see how they go,,,he did not do anything special except to seperate the male from the female once the eggs were laid, then seperate the female once the fry are free swimming

convicts are probably the easiest cichlid to breed but 16 gal tank would be a small for them

Neolamprolongus brichardi? Not sure about a 16 gallon, I've been considering a pair in a 20 gallon for some time, though. They breed potentially more than convicts - older fry help with care for new broods, and they eventually form extended colonies and take over larger tanks if left unchecked.

Kribs would be great. They do well with just about any Ph, and breed like mad. Get a male and a female ( make sure you know the difference, it appears many members on here still cant tell, even though its easy to), and put them in the tank, put caves in there, up the temp to about 82, do frequent water changes, and feed good food, like Black Worms, and your good to go.

Nannacara Anomola seem very easy to breed. I added a group of 6 small fish to my Discus tank and they had free swimming fry within a month.

would you say rams or cockatoos which would be easier
I'm with Truckasaurus in regards the cockatoo dwarf cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides). They are easy to keep and breed and will live in a wide range of water conditions assuming they are captive bred and not wild caught. Wild caught specimens need soft acid water but captive bred stock will be fine in hard slightly alkaline water as well. They eat most frozen and live foods and will live & breed in a 10g tank so a 16g tank should be fine too.

Keyhole cichlids are easy to breed but hard to sex. It's a good idea to buy 6-10 young fish and let them grow up together. When they mature they will pr off and then you can breed the prs in their own tanks.
