I have replaced my large ugly JBL diffuser with a Dymax spiral diffuser. The bubbles only come out from 1 point on the disc and don't seem that fine to me. I had visions of bubbles being somewhat finer and leaving from more points. I just have 1 exit, 1 bubble sized if you get my drift.

Is this right or is it faulty?

Alan

It sounds like its faulty, try PM'ing aqua essentials he will give you better a better insight.

Simon.

Will do-there's an e-mail address on the web site. Is he on here too?

Alan

Hey, I bought exactly the same diffuser about a month ago, i have the same problem. Now there are two points where bubble escape instead of one. Sounds like i need to give them a call too.

Richard has already replied! He says this is normal-the cheaper diffusers have ceramic discs that are not of the same quality as the ADA ones. You pays your money and takes your choice! If you up the pressure you can see that the ceramic disc is indeed porous all over, at lower pressures the bubbles will follow the path of least resistance.
Unfortunately the ADA diffusers are well out of my budget!

I see. I suppose what you pay is what you get. I could get a few more fishies with the price of one ADA diffuser.

I've also noticed that the dynamax diffuser can be quite noisy.

They can be noisy when you run low pressure through them. All I can advise is to increase your C02 output; this in turn reduces the bubble size and keeps the noise down. Run them at over 1 bubble per second and you can barely hear them :)

Yeap, running 2 per secs, a little quiter.

Just out of interest, between the ADA stuff and Fishvet stuff, which one would you personally recommend?
I know you get what you pay for, but not all of us owns an oil refinery. If it really does make that much of a difference, I suppose i'll choose the ADA diffuser. It all depends on whether the performance difference is worth the extra 40 quid.

I'll try upping the pressure-obviously I don't want to gas the fish!

Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: working fine now-maybe the diffuser needs a bit of a soaking.

I personally recommend what ever you can afford. If you can afford ADA, go for it - it won't let you down, looks the business and functions just as you expect. FishVet is also nice - not as good as ADA but still better than the cheaper diffusers.

They all preform in terms of diffusers, but you won't get better growth from plants for example just because you use an ADA diffuser. When you purchase a top of the range model, you are also buying into a brand/image - it's the way it makes you feel when you have it in your tank, and for some, that is what they are after.

My Dynamax diffuser seems to be working fine now, but I'm going to tell the plants that it's an ADA
:D
