My girlfriend and I have been trying to get some shrimp to live in a tank with our beta. He leaves them alone completely so it's not him attacking the shrimp. However we've lost 3 shrimp in 2 weeks. The first shrimp we believe died due to over heating since the new heater for the tank was set too high and in the morning the tank was up to 82 degrees.

Once we lost that shrimp we took the time to tweak the heater to keep the tank at 77-79 degrees before getting more. However both a new bumblebee shrimp and ghost shrimp died today. They were both fine when I went to class (I've been checking on them all day) and when I got back both were dead. I was only gone an hour.

5 gallon tank with a duetto 50 filter, set to a low flow so as not to bother the beta. Water in the tank is perfectly fine, just changed it the day before buying the shrimp and was conditioned with API Stress Coat+. They had a sinking wafer in the bottom of the tank to pick at all last night and wouldn't starve to death in 24 hours since purchase in any case.

Please any suggestions would be great. I'm flummoxed and my girl friend is getting disheartened as far as getting her beta a tank mate.
