i did my water change on my shrimp tank today and mid-way through found one of my crystal reds (not just the shed, the shrimp) lying motionless and just drifting a little as i moved the water. however, i could still see it's gills moving but there was no movement in it otherwise. all other shrimp seem fine. could it be a problem shedding? or something else? i've left it be for the night in the vain hope it might miraculously recover.

Sorry to hear about your poor shrimp  Sadly, crystal reds are a lot more sensitive than the average cherry and amano shrimps. Have you been doing big water changes or rescaping? They also prefer softer and slightly acidic water, although some people have successfully kept and bred them in typical London hard water. I guess some strains do better than others.

If it is only 1 i wouldn't worry... Like iSnail says they are more sensitive than other shrimp and their inbred nature makes them more suceptable to other problems. I lost about 1 a month while I had them to what looked like problems shedding, but by the time I found them they were definatly dead. If it is more than 1 being affected it could be a bigger issue but i'm not sure what to recommend as i couldn't keep mine alive  You could try running some Carbon in the filter short term to clear any possible contaminants.
