Well, folks... I still don't know what to do! My angel fish ( Gill) is still alive! he lays in the corner of the aquarium... doesn't eat. he occasionally swims across the tank to the other corner, but his swimming is definately an effort!

No one in the tank is picking on him... they are being very sweet.

Where before he had no visible signs, I can see now that his fins look very shaggy. he is not gasping, just breathing.

What do ya'll think? Is there a chance that he can make it thru this? This has been going on for two weeks! Should I try some jungle fizz tabs for Bacterial infection? ( i tried different things last week and you guys kindly told me to stop putting in chemicals!) Good thing to, cause I can't seem to get my nitrites down...

I am doing a 10% water change daily, my nitrates are 60, nitrites are 2.0-3.0, hardness is 150, alk is 120, and ph is low... 6.4... 55 gallon tank.

Any suggestions from ya'll would be great! Please don't tell me to euthanize, because I read the proper way to do that on here, and there is NO WAY i can do those things to my Angel!

Thanks a bunch!

hiya, im sorry 2 hear that! i hope that he does manage to get thru this!

have u tried melafix on a 7 day course of treatment ? if not, u mite wana try that. i had a gourami that lost him swim bladder and was all ova the place, i gave him that and a gud water change daily and hes back 2 his old tricks!

i hope this helps!

Gud luck!

No! I haven't tried melafix! i tried maracide and hex a mit... ( not together) but... then my water parameters started getting messed up and he didn't get any better.

BUT... I just might have to give Melafix a try!

Thanks a bunch!

It seems to me that the source of the problem could be the high nitrites and nitrates. Was this tank cycled? I missed part one, so I don't know the history. Did the meds screw up the bio-filter?

If it were me, I would do a larger water change to bring the nitrite and nitrate levels down a bit more. That sounds too high for an angel. Poor fella, I hate to hear that he's not well

:fish: Definately do water changes of at least 30% daily using warmed dechlorinated water. :D
Cut down on feeding, as overfeeding will cause high nitrates, remember a fish's stomach is the same size as its eye. :D
Get some floating plants in your tank to help soak up the nitrates, let the plants grow until they cover almost all of the surface and then remove half of them and repeat as needed. :D
You can add melafix as this may well help don't add any other disease treatment at the same time though, but I think that simply getting the water parameters back to normal will do more good in the long run :D
