Dyed Parrot

I am planning on getting a BP soon. There is this tiny one at the pet shop and he is dyed. He is blue/green. Could i buy him? Is it not a good idea? Its not about the colour its his little personality. I know the colour will fade and i dont care about the colour. What do you guys think?

Personally I'd buy him to give him a better home and save him from any more pain/humiliation - still don't condone this being done to any fish though, it's outrageous. The shop should be reported.

Thank you for that, I really feel sorry for him and hes all alone and kids tap the glass and stuff. Its my fav shop and i dident ever think they would get dyed ones, well they never used to. He is such a sweet thing tho. I think i will buy him, at leased he will have a clean tank and a happy life. (no matter how long that will be)

If good, honest, fish-loving people like yourself keep buying these fish then won't the stores keep stocking them. I know that is a bit of an ethical question and I don't want to fall out with you betta5 becuase I think you are a good person for thinking about this fish, I just think you need to have a look at both sides of the argument??

Dont worry you wont fall out with me, I went to the shop and he had gone anyway. They also said they wont be getting in anymore dyed parrots any time soon. They did have some orange (not dyed) ones but i dident get any, im getting a 7 foot tank soon which will become home for a few non dyed ones. It was weird because they dont usually sell dyed fish at all.

I would not buy him. By buying him, you are encouraging thr lfs to get more in thinking they are a good money earner. If everyone refused to buy dyed fish, lfs would stop stocking them and the breeders would stop torturing them by dying them. By buying, you aren't 'saving' them, you are encouraging the breeders to continue torturing others.

by giving the lfs money for a dyed fish, you are indeed condoning it and encouraging him to get more. What's to report? It isn't illegal. How will it be 'saving' him from more pain? He has been tattoed, it's been done. Leaving him there won't make it happen again.

You can always check your LFS's status with practical fish keeping's website. if it says theyve signed the dyed fish pledge and they are selling dyed fish you should report them for that. Lfs owners who genuinely care about the well being of fish wouldnt sell them. There were some outrageous cases of LFS's trying to make an easy few quid by selling fish for valentines day with 'i <3 u' tattooed onto them... poor lil things
