Hi All-
Its been awhile since I have been here! Hectic Hetic lately! But a strange thing happened at work and i knew you guys would be able to tell me what it is!

My co-worker and I just rescued a betta from my boss who got it as a gift. He was in one of those vases with the lillys on top. So we went out and bought him a 2.5 gallon tank with all the trimmings and he is now living happily on my friends desk. Well since she doesn't know anything about fish i basically took over the duty of cleaning his tank. We've had him for about two weeks now.

So anyways when I went to change his water it was litterally red. Now he is a very pretty red betta, but after seeing the water was red, i took a closer look at him and realized he was fading!

Has anyone ever heard of a betta being dyed? Or is this normal for red bettas?!!?

I'm stumped by this one.

Thanks all!

thats werid but i think i have a possible senerio.

ok im think sum1 in ur office or maybe ur friend or whoever put fred die or sumthing in there. and ths stressed out the bettao much that its colors faded.

if the color doesn't come back then i dont know what to say. iv never heard of dieing bettas, y would u need to?

hmmmm....thats good thinking. But i know my friend who is the new betta owner would never try to hurt the betta. The lady here at work who makes the stupid vases is another thing though. She makes the vases to coordinate with the fish. Possibly she found a red betta but didn't think it matched the vase good enough and decided to try and dye it? It was a red white and blue vase. The betta has blue red and white on him, and I have never seen a betta that color.

What do you guys think?

I would ask her... I hate when people harm animals just because they want it to look "cool"...

I don't know why the water would turn red... stumps me.

I would also ask her to justify why putting fish in a vase like that w/ no room to swim is humane. I bet she's one of those people that say the fish eats the roots too...
