Hello all
You guided me through my mainman puff and his week of not eating. Can I call on you again if not too painful? ;)

I wanted to give one of my tanks to my sister as the kids are interested and thought it could be a good christmas present. The thing is the guppy tank is gorgeous and I really like it! My plan was to swap the inhabitants over and to have the dwarf puffs in this snazzy tank but would really appreciate some advice first.

Here is the puff current tank: 14g

It is long, the puffs are generally lazy and don't seem to use it!

Here is the tank I would like to transfer them into: 10-11g

I would get a plastic cover to stop any jumpers, the plants etc would also be transferred over.

What do you guys think, it is deeper but remember someone having theirs in a biorb so thought this would be ok.

Thanks for any help guys

p.s. thes second tank is smaller by 3-4g it looks alot smaller in that pic but believe me it is a gorgeous size!

The puff tank has a fluval 2 plus and the guppy a aquaclear biowheel thing, need to swap filters over?

you could try it, but it would need more planting; but if you are transferring plants over :good:

i would stick with the 14gallon though, as it allows them to swim a fair distance if in a fight, in the smaller one they will be restricted; thats just me though ^^

all the best

Thanks Bagu

Not seen a fight yet and was planning on absolutely jam packing the joint! Wanted a really pretty planty tank ;)

I will have a think about it a bit more

From observation, my DPs like to stay on the lower part of the tank often searching for snails and shrimps near the substrate and bogwood. They usually come up to the top when I'm feeding them. I think the reason why your DPs are not using the extra space is because the tank is under decorated. They like exploring nooks and crannies. Very nosy little things  A bit more planting and some bogwood will help.

I think a longer tank is more suitable for them and also it's harder to decorate a tall tank than a long tank IMHO.

With aggression, it grow with age :)

OK so here are my thoughts, currently have 14g 3xDPs, 5g 1xDPs, 10g 4xguppies, 3g 1xbetta, empty 160litre.

My concerns are that so far have 5 tanks, 4 of those running (and a 6th spare). Have been building up experience with my smaller tanks and am extremely nervous of setting up the 160 litre for a GSP not to mention my sudden thoughts on electrical costs.

It will sound extremely mean but the Guppies just don't do it for me, wanted to have some pretty flitty fish which they do fit the bill, but with my DPs and betta being so personable the guppies just aren't in the same league ;)

I wish to cut down on one of the medium tanks (medium in my world!) and as my sister's kids want a tank was thinking as an early christmas present with the 4 Gups and further fish to slowly stock.

It is a little unreasonable but will lay it out simple, betta stays in 3g, DP in 5g stays there, could always reintroduce to the trio but he has only just started to be happy again so wouldnt wish to do this. The 160 litre was the first tank I brought! Reason not filled as the rest of the parts are for my birthday (in the meantime I ended up getting MTS far too quickly). So left is the 10g and 14g. The 14g was given to me free which is all good and nice, but the 10g was brought with own money and I really fought tooth and nail to get it don;t know why the tank just suits my taste out of all the others except the 160 litre (the small ones brought for praticalities).

So I am being selfish on my thoughts, but thought would lay bare... I wish to shut one tank down another reason that except for the one tank in the spare room, all the others get attention during the day. I make special efforts to see the gup tank but the layout just doesnt work in this instance and it is not fair on them to not get deserved attention.

From other sources read 10g would be plentiful, the tall factor does cause concern.

So there I am please be kind to my selfishness, just really wanted to explain :) You guys have all be so good to me.

A last thought I could always move the 1xDP into the 10g though would need to make sure could have in the front room, possbily get tank mates for him as 10g is very excessive! Think this may be a bit excessive with him being liking my company in the 5g... but just another thought. (The betta could also go in there but unsure of the tallness)Sorry for my ramblings.

lastly me again, most likely going to move betta in there and because a 10g mmmaaayyy get a divider but lets not get ahead of myself.

EDIT: The betta has been moved into luxury, the DPs will stay in their tank and receive some nice new plants over the next coupld of weeks :) Bogwood already in, thinking some java ferns, moss and anubias.
