Dwarf puffers eating at last.

They are finaly eating!!! Maybe I won't have to take them back!! I tell ya, those dwarf puffers are so cute!! I went and got some snails from lfs, I only got 5 little ones and out came those puffers. But of course my Albino Tiger Barb sure fought for them. Do Tiger Barbs like snails? Or is mine just weird? And I wanted to know, should I smash them to the glass, or just let them go? My puffers are SO SMALL, I don't think they could eat them if I didn't. And man oh man did it make my other fish go crazy looking for them!! This is so much fun.

ummm, i hope you aren't feeding your puffers JUST snails................. and don't smash them, puffers need the snails because breaking open the shell is what helps to keep their beaks filed.

Thats good to hear. I can't wait until I can get my SA puffers.

With the sails, I would suggest you let them loose. This will give your puffer somthing to occupy his time, and if the snails are bigger, they will have lots of shell for him to dull his teeth down on, so you don't have to clip them.

THankyou for the reply. As you can see I'm so new at this fish thing. But No I tried to get them to eat Flake, Blood worms and Tubifex worms, with no luck yet. It seemed all the one wanted to eat was the tail end of anyone slow enough to take a nip at, lol. What else should I feed them? Two of them are visable and active alot, but the other 2 are really hard to find, I hope they're ok.

well, mine are a little picky. they prefer live, moving food. i use brine shrimp and tubifex worms live. i also use frozen (thawed of course) bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and mussel (which they absolutely gobble up). i dump the frozen stuff over top an air stone so it "moves", they like to strike at the food then. fun to watch. what all do you have in with them, how many do you have and what size tank?

oh, and for future ref, you really should post this in the oddball section, you'll get more puffer fans there for response

Thankyou also for your reply. OK, I smashed half of them, but now thinking that was a mistake hearing how these fish can train the people to do what 'they' need done, and he may very well think I'm here for that very reason <smacking forhead> Man am I a sucker or what?? What kind of fish do you have in your tank? And are you going to add the Dwarf Puffers to it?

would NOT recommend them in that tank. they will nip everyone, but especially the faster swimmers (the fastmovement attracts their attention). they WILL NOT eat flakes. snails=the nuisance kind that come in on plants, most lfs will give them to you for free. bloodworms, tubifex worms, brine shrimp good foods. read up the pinned articles inthe oddball section for more info

Ok let me ammend to my post, so far I've seen TWO of the FOUR eating, I'm really starting to worry about the two I can't seem to find. I hope they are ok, I think they are just in hiding, I have lots of caves and hiding places.
