I wanted to get some white cheek gobies for my 5 1/2 gallon tank, but i cant find them anywhere! I am giving up on them and i was wondering if i could get a dwarf puffer. the 5 1/2 gal tank is sand, has a flower pot hiding spot, and there is some other little spots in the tank where he/she could go. The filtration is what i wasnt sure about, Its a sponge filter, and since dwarf puffers are messy with food, im not sure if it would be enough filtration. But, if i did get more filtration, there would be a strong current that would probably disturb the puffer. Is this tank the right size? Do i need plants? Is the filtration good?
i also would like to know if i NEED snails for the puffers to grind their beaks down. Could they eat shrimp instead or something? I have some frozen krill, and ill probably get shrimp from a near by grocery store. Would the puffer eat crickets? i have lots of extra crickets because i just got a leopard gecko :D

Yes to most of your questions. I'd get a Aquaclear Mini for that tank though. Make sure the sand isn't deeper than 1/2-1". They love lots of live/plastic plants, to investigate. Make sure the food you feed them isn't larger than them, LOL. Small crickets would be fine.

dwarf puffers also like live river shrimp and anything like that although there is a chance it may leave something as big as a river shrimp. But yes they probably do need some small snails at least every month or two.
