would the ABF eat the Dwarf puffer? Would the Dwarf puffer terrorize the ABF? how would it work out?

I wouldn't do it. I just have this feeling that the long fins on the butterflyfish would be too much of a temptation. Even peaceful puffers like South Americans can't resist the feelers on an angelfish, and I fear more nippy species like dwarf puffers would be even worse. Butterflyfish are too peaceful to fight back, though I suppose they might eat a dwarf pufferfish if it came to the surface of the tank.

In short: 99% sure this is a bad combination.

Cheers,

Neale

I agree with everything nmonks posted except I'd go one step farther and say that it is 100% a bad combination. Puffers are the spawn of Satan....nasty little fin-nippers that they are.

I've kept both fish but never together, and nor would I.

The only true tankmates for dwarf puffers (if any) are listed in the pinned topic at the top of the forum.

hmmm, you say pleco, but what about a smooth skinned one like a flash pleco?

Like i say, armoured plecs are a possible choice, but, even then my DP's "hitched rides" on my bristlenose.

I wouldn't put an expensive, messy fish in with dwarf puffers to be honest.

I know it sounds negative, but I don't want to put you off dwarf puffers, just be realistic about keeping them.

over here there are a multitude of flash plecos being mis-sold as candy stripe plecos... so it's a possibility I could do with a smaller tank.

The most likely result of a buterfly fish with a puffer is the butterfly would literally make like a butterfly and jump out.

I agree! I personally wouldn't keep anything with a puffer fish. They appear such happy cute little guys and when the lights off - wham - they turn into assassins!

I loved my 2 puffer fish but sold them on because they are specialist fish and without doubt will nip anything and everything that they come across. Don't be fooled by their smiling faces!
