I'm looking at getting a dwarf puffer for my 6g tank and i'm wanting to add something else that will eat any left over food and also keep the algae under control.

I think the tank would be too small to add 3 ottos as they are better in a schoal, so what other fish would be an option that the dwarf puffer wouldnt eat?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The best algae beaters are fast growing plants. In a 6 gallon tank, consider a clip-on light and a stack of hornwort under the water's surface. Java moss and Java fern do well, too, though they grwo a bit slow to beat algae effectively.

Adding fish -- any fish -- increases the nitrates and phosphates in the water, raising the growth rate of algae. The idea algae eaters beat algae is, if not quite a myth, then rather misunderstood as a concept. There's a great pinned topic on algae in the Plants section.

Cheers,

Neale

I have a lot of Cabomba growing in my other tanks so i'll try keep some of that growing in there.
