My DP has a 'milky' eye... it is more like an 'opaque covering' over the eyeball... I can see the eye underneath - it is not swollen, bloodshot etc... he seems fine and is eating well... any ideas?... and advice on what med to treat this with?... (I wasn't aware of it yesterday so I think it has come on in the last 24hrs)... Thanks

Need to no water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, as cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease rather than a desease in it's self.

Not the writer of this information below.
Cloudy Eye- This condition is diagnosed by visually inspecting the fish's eye(s) and body. Either one or both of the eyes will be cloudy in appearance. The fish itself may be off colour or distressed. Cloudy eye affects many tropical aquarium fish such as barbs, cichlids, live-bearers and catfish. This infection can be caused by various bacterial infections, and can also cause damage to the fish's nervous system. If your fish seem to have this condition, don't worry, it is very easy to get rid off. Poor water conditions are usually to blame, so first perform a water change. Then you will want to check you water conditions and maintenance your filter. The addition of salt to your aquarium can also ease the disease and prevent re-infection. If these measures do not work, take a visit to your local pet store and purchase a bottle of anti-bacterial medication.

thanks Wilder... water stats are: Amm '0', Ni '0', Na '<20', temp: 79... in your answer above, did you mean 'slate' (as in the stone?)... I have a few pieces built up as caves etc in with him already...

I have 'Interpet no.8 fungal and finrot' traetment - which I am currently using for an Endler with fungus in my other tank... could I use this in the DP tank to sort his eye out?...

... what about the use of salt with a DP?...

Don't add salt if you have scaless fish, cloudy eye can have many causes from parasites like whitespot and velvet, bacterial even fish tb, i would just add some melafix for now to see how it goes, no don't add the finrot med.

Wilder's post is sound general information about cloudy-eye, but does not take into account that pufferfish are physiologically very different to other fish species.

Adding salt to the tank as medication is fine (as long as there are no plecs in there too), but once the condition has resolved the salt should be removed by succesive water changes.

Adding salt as a continuous preventative to freshwater aquariums containing fish not adapted to salt is bad practice and shortens the life of the fish. It's far better to ensure that the water is perfect and that new additions are properly quarantined.

Puffers have very delicate metabolisms and very absorbant skin, so even small amounts of pollutants can cause a lot of damage. This goes for medications too, any medication used on puffers should be used at half-dose and removed as soon as you are sure the infection has cleared up.
thanks Wilder...in your answer above, did you mean 'slate' (as in the stone?)
No, she meant 'salt' It was a typo which I've now corrected.

Thank all... I'll try the Melafix at 'half' the recommended dosage and see how it goes...

Good luck, just watch out for parasites.
