Hi all,

I have purchased 6 males for my new 240 tank, thse are the 1st fish I have placed in since fishless cycling. Should purchase 4 more males to bring the group up to 10 or should I add 4 females. The males sem quite happy at the moment, however I 'm not sure what they will be like when they get older or will the females just upset the males?

I have always kept them in mixed sex groups with equal numbers of males and females. The males should be okay on their own, personally I prefer mixed groups they show more of their natural behaviour, if you do get females I would get as many females as males or just stick with males.

As Liam said, try to get some females so the males can act more naturally. Having a tank full of males is a bit like being in prison, great for male bonding, not for sharing the same bunk tho.
4 females should be ok but if you have room get 6 and have a nice school of them.
Their temperament doesn't change much when they mature. The males will display to each other and the females. Because they are in a group any aggression will be spread amongst all the individuals. And they aren't very agro to start with so there shouldn't be any problems.

Rainbowfish need lots of plant matter in their diet. You can feed them vege/spirulina flakes and peas, pumpkin, etc. If they don't have enough plant matter in their diet they will nibble on plants.
