Guys,

Im really worried about my Dwarf Gourami, One of them has its left eye that looks like it is very swolen and milky cloudy, from what I have read this sounds like popeye.

It has also lost its apetite and hasnt eaten today where as it usually grabs anything going in the tank.

What I am really worried about is above its mouth on what one would describe as the "snout" there are three smallish 'blisters' that look full of dark liquid, all side by side accross the width of the "snout"

I introduced 4 black mollies into the tank on Sunday and the LFS told me not to change the water for 7 days to let them aclimatise so im hesitant to change the water.

Tank is a 30 gal with the set up as below. I have no destinct chem values to hand but was checked on Sunday by the LFS to be "far better than average quality for round here"

Help please?! what should I treat with? the poor thing is obviously suffering. It wont move, it just stays near the top with its eye resting on the side of the heater, obviously rubbing it but not any other part of its body/gills touching the heater.

I cant take any pics because if you go near it it just swims and hides and I dont want to stress the poor lil guy out any more than he obviously is already.

Kind thanks in advance,

Alex

Yes, it sounds like Popeye to me too. I have a couple Dwarf Gourami's myself and fortunately, neither has had popeye.

However, not long ago, one of my Scissortail Raspora's did. It didn't have the 'seriousness' of your Gourami's symptoms. My solution was a simple one, I turned up the heat to about 31c/88f, and left the fishes for a half day. Later, the heat was reduced back to normal, and miraculously the fishes popeye was gone.

I was lucky. Perhaps I'd caught it in time? I don't know. You could try this method. However, I don't know if this'd help your Dwarf Gourami.

You could also try a water change. New water would 'freshen' the feel of the water to the fishes. Might even help with the recovery process.

Good luck! :/

thanks for the reply. It wasnt there this morning so I must have caught it within 4-5hours of it developing, I have raised the tank temp and will leave it like that overnight.

Im just in the middle of doing a 30% water change and hopefully he will feel better, Its so awful to see a fish in distress like this!
